چکیده

We present the first polarization measurements of the radio emission from RRAT J1819−1458. Our observations, conducted in parallel to regular timing sessions, have yielded a small number of bright and polarized pulses. The polarization characteristics and integrated profile resemble those of normal pulsars with average spin-down energy Ė: moderate to low linear polarization in the integrated profile despite relatively high polarization in the individual pulses. On average, a small degree of circular polarization is also observed. The polarization position angle executes a remarkably smooth, steep S-shaped curve, interrupted by two orthogonal jumps. Based on the shape of the PA swing, we place some constraints on the emission geometry. We compare these polarization properties to those of other radio emitting neutron star populations, including young pulsars, pulsars with a high surface magnetic field and radio emitting magnetars. From the polarization measurements, the Faraday rotation measure of this RRAT is derived.

Discovery of the X - Ray Counterpart to the Rotating Radio Transient

We present the discovery of the first X-ray counterpart to a Rotating RAdio Transient (RRAT) source. RRAT J1819–1458 is a relatively highly magnetized (B ∼ 5 × 1013 G) member of a new class of unusual pulsar-like objects discovered by their bursting activity at radio wavelengths. The position of RRAT J1819– 1458 was serendipitously observed by the Chandra ACIS-I camera in 2005 May. At that posi...

Upper Limits on X-ray Emission from Two Rotating Radio Transients

X-ray emission from the enigmatic Rotating RAdio Transients (RRATs) offers a vital clue to understanding these objects and how they relate to the greater neutron star population. An X-ray counterpart to RRAT J1819−1458 is known, and its properties are similar to those of other middle-aged (0.1Myr) neutron stars. We have searched for X-ray emission with Chandra/ACIS at the positions of two RRATs...

Unusual glitch activity in the RRAT J1819−1458: an exhausted magnetar?

We present an analysis of regular timing observations of the high-magnetic-field Rotating Radio Transient (RRAT) J1819−1458 obtained using the 64-m Parkes and 76-m Lovell radio telescopes over the past five years. During this time, the RRAT has suffered two significant glitches with fractional frequency changes of 0.6 × 10 and 0.1 × 10. Glitches of this magnitude are a phenomenon displayed by b...

We derive the second and most stringent limit to date of the X-ray/radio flux ratio (FX/F1.4GHz) for the radio bursts associated with the recently identified source class, the Rotating Radio Transients (RRATs). We analyze 20.1 hr of RXTE/PCA observations of RRAT J1819−1458 – a period during which 350±23 RRAT radio bursts occurred, based on the previously observed average radio burst rate. No X-...

Discovery of Pulsations and a Possible Spectral Feature in the X-ray Emission from Rotating Radio Transient J1819–1458

PSR J1819–1458 is a rotating radio transient (RRAT) source with an inferred surface dipole magnetic field strength of 5×1013 G and a 4.26-s spin period. We present XMM-Newton observations of the X-ray counterpart of this source, CXOU J181939.1–145804, in which we identify pulsations and a possible spectral feature. The X-ray pulsations are at the period predicted by the radio ephemeris, providi...
